Know Your Heart: How Early Detection Can Help Prevent Stroke 

 Every five minutes, someone in the UK has a stroke. The good news is that up to 90% of strokes are 

preventable. That’s why OMRON Healthcare UK has joined forces with the Stroke Association to help 

people understand the biggest hidden risks of Hypertension and Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). 

AFib is an irregular heart rhythm that is often undiagnosed and can increase the risk of stroke by up to

Keith’s story: A stroke that could have been prevented 

Keith, 74, from Brighton, had a stroke at home. Thanks to his wife’s quick recognition of the FAST 

signs (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 999), he received urgent 

treatment and recovered well. 

Later, hospital tests revealed undiagnosed AFib, despite previous all-clear ECGs. Keith now believes

his stroke. 

Elaine’s story: “It happened just before my 45th birthday”
