What do you need to consider when choosing a blood pressure monitor?
Upper arm or wrist?
Both give accurate and reliable results. Upper arm monitors are used in a more traditional way and are ideal for home use, whilst wrist monitors are smaller and can be more practical as the wrist is easier to expose than the upper arm.
In some cases it may be more appropriate to use an upper arm, particularly if you have a weak pulse that can be harder for a wrist monitor to detect. . If you have a condition that you think may affect your blood pressure readings and you are still unsure of which type would be more suitable for you a please contact our customer service team who will be happy to assist you. Why is a positioning sensor useful?
Used on a wrist monitor, it has an advanced positioning sensor that ensures that your arm is in the optimum position before taking a reading.
What size cuff should I be using?
The correct cuff size should be used for an accurate measurement. The cuff should encircle at least 80% of the arm. If it is too short the blood pressure will be overestimated, since the pressure is not fully transmitted from the artery. A cuff which is too small or too large may cause inaccurate measurements. Measure the circumference of your upper arm, if it is between 22 to 32cm then the medium cuff that is supplied as standard with the monitor is correct. If your arm is larger – between 32 to 42 cm then you will need a large cuff. You can either order one as an accessory now (particularly useful if you intend to share the use of the monitor with someone who has a medium sized arm) or upon receipt of your monitor, you may send in the medium cuff to Omron for a free exchange to a large cuff. If your arm is smaller than 22cm then please only order a monitor that is compatible with our small cuff. Call us if you are unsure.
What is a Comfort Cuff?
A Comfort Cuff will provide you with a cuff that spans the Medium and Large sizes
